"Civil War CSA Congressman. A prominent member of the Georgia State Bar, he established a family law practice that still exists today, and was the first lawyer to argue cases in front of the Georgia Supreme Court. After unsuccessfully running for Governor of Georgia in 1860 (losing to Governor Joseph E. Brown), he supported secession at the onset of the Civil War. He was elected to represent Georgia in the 2nd Confederate Congress, serving from 1864 until the Confederacy dissolved in 1865." -- "...
